What Is AVID

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an elective program designed to help students who are underserved and are in the academic middle. These are often students who will be the first in their families to attend college. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. Students will learn skills that will help them become better students, prepare them for college, and become educated and responsible participants and leaders in their communities and our society.

How To Join

SYHS offers AVID as a club and as a class to better fit students needs. You can find information on joining the class below and more on the club here.

Incoming 8th-grade students are encouraged to apply to the AVID program. Fill out the online application by clicking below.

AVID interviews are held at the middle schools in the spring.

Students already enrolled at SYHS interested in the AVID program are encouraged to talk to their counselor about the possibility of joining.

If you have any questions or need additional information about AVID, please contact Mrs. Rasmussen in P4 or Mrs. Lageman in the counseling office.
