Critical to the success of EAST are the partnerships with community
members and organizations. EAST is project-based service learning
at its best. A partial list of organizations we have worked with include:
Solvang School - Standards posters, mapping, science labs
Lutheran Day Care - safety mapping
Santa Barbara County Government - IV Cliffs mapping
UCSB - South Coast Science Project, Sedgwick UC Nature Reserve trail
mapping
California Mission Studies - aqueduct mapping
CHP - accident mapping, school safety
Boy Scouts - web sites
MATE - GIS work
Ocean Explorers - GIS work
Santa Ynez Water Conservation District - mapping of water meters
Cal Coast Vineyards - vineyard mapping
City of Solvang - 2nd units
The administration and school boards at Santa Ynez Valley Union High
School have been critical in getting the grant funded, allowing it
to work and expanding the program into ROP. Superintendent Dr Fred
Van Leuven, Principal Norm Clevenger, ROP Director Ken Main, Assistant
Principals Jerry Swanitz and Ron Green have all been instrumental
in our success. In addition the outstanding staff at SYVUHS has been
helpful and generous even when we have to be gone or are wondering
around trying to get something done.
The parents and students over the years have allowed us to expand
and grow the program. If we have gone far it is because we have stood
on the shoulders of giants!
