Prerequisite:  Basic math ability and keyboard knowledge

Students will apply technology to common business tasks in accounting, finance and personal investments.  Students will analyze, record, and interpret business transactions in the accounting cycle for proprietorships and partnerships using traditional ledger and computer software.

This course is a continuation of Accounting and Finance I.  Students will apply technology to more advanced business tasks in accounting, finance, and personal investment.  Subject matter includes accounting cycle for corporations; special journals; plant assets and depreciation; inventory control; accrual accounting; and spreadsheet applications.

This course builds upon student’s basic computer skills using a variety of modern business software.  Students will become proficient with advanced features of word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing.  Developing presentations and web page design will also be covered.  Students will test their skills by designing and producing brochures, flyers, newsletters, and presentations suitable for electronic and hard copy publication.

Students learn skills involving the installation, operation, service and repair of computers and their peripheral devices.  The course includes a review of basic electrical and electronic circuits and the mechanical devices that make up the computer system.  Emphasis will be placed on troubleshooting (diagnosis and isolation), repair, and servicing individual computers and related hardware equipment such as monitors and printers.  Students also will learn skills that prepare them to take the industry standard A+ Certification exam.  Class projects will include servicing and upgrading Apple and IBM-compatible computers.

More advanced skills than is offered in the above course will be taught as well as skills necessary to work on operating systems and networking.  Students also will learn additional skills that prepare them to take the industry standard A+ Certification exam.  Class projects will include servicing and upgrading Apple and IBM-compatible computers.

Prerequisite:   Basic math ability and students must be able to provide their own transportation to work sites

Students learn merchandising, marketing, and retail sales skills.  Subject areas include: advertising, product display, selling, retail management, and economics.  The remainder of instruction takes place in paid or non-paid training stations in retail stores.  This class is designed for both students who are already employed in retail stores or those who are not employed and wish to obtain merchandising/marketing positions.  All students will be placed in a merchandising related training site within the first four weeks of class.  The training site requires a minimum of ten hours of the students' time per week.
